If evil came in a liquid, foul smelling, chocolate milkshake like concoction, then I met it yesterday. When I cut hose that takes the waste from the toilet into the ocean it spilled out in front of me. Usually you can remove the hose from the through hull fitting and place the business end quickly into a bucket, but our hose was stuck to the fitting. I had to cut it and watch it ooze out into one of our lockers. After cleaning up that mess, I stuck a screw driver through the fitting to remove the clog and the barnacles that had trapped the waste in the hose.
My first idea (which was much better) was to dive under the boat and clean out the clog from that end. However, Baltimore's inner harbor is not an ideal place to dive. Zero visibility, freezing temperatures and a constantly running trash boat kept me from finding the drain under the boat. I was out of the water very quickly.
I am happy to say that everything is now clean (read lots of bleach), and working well. We made it to Annapolis this afternoon and enjoyed a spectacular sunset. This is the most boats we have seen anchored on our way south since Cape May. We are looking forward to exploring tomorrow.
I also wanted to give a shout out to Ben. We had dinner on his beautiful Bristol Channel Cutter the last night and he has a sweet blog.
